Ok, so I’m sure you’re sick of all this Twitter excitement, but you have to admit; to Tweet or not to Tweet is no longer in question…. only why you didn’t Tweet before….
The social networking site has quickly become an essential tool not only to stalk our friends/ celebrities, but as currently illustrated in Iran, it also serves as a means to re-gain political freedom.
The fraud allegations hovering over the recent Iranian elections have highlighted the value of online media as a rapid communication tool. Young Iranians in particular are utilising the social networking site Twitter to voice their outrage and to arrange rallies. Activists, not perturbed by the government’s wish to silence them through blocking internet sites, are Tweeting so rapidly that Barack Obama stepped in to ask Twitter to suspend maintenance work in order to maintain its service in Iran.
Jenna Sampson, Twitter spokeswoman, in an e-mailed statement also acknowledged, “we realise Twitter is playing an important role in the events taking place in Iran [and] we’ve seen many instances of people using Twitter to communicate when there was no other way”.
The Iranian government’s battle to censor on-line media continues in its intensity, however, the Tweet of the young Iranians will not be silenced without a fight…

Thanks very much for this useful entry.
